NEUROTOXINS - Botox ®, Xeomin ® and Dysport ®

Neurotoxins are group of injectables (including BOTOX®, Xeomin®, & Dysport®) that relax the muscles in the face to decrease/erase wrinkles.

They can treat:

  • Moderate to Severe Frown Lines: The 11s that appear between your eyebrows when you concentrate or frown.

  • Moderate to Severe Crow’s Feet: The fine lines that appear next to your eyes when you squint or smile.

  • Moderate to Severe Forehead Lines: The lines that appear on your forehead when your skin furrows and folds while raising your eyebrows

Neurotoxins can also be used for a “Lip Flip” which can enhance the fullness of your upper lip and prevent the upper lip from curling under while smiling, reducing the appearance of a “gummy smile”

The procedure itself takes only about 10-15 minutes, with minimal discomfort and little to no downtime! Results are typically seen in 7-10 days, but take up to two weeks. With proper unit dosing, the effects of Botox®, Dysport® or Xeomin® can last up to three to four months.

CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels are used to improve the appearance of the skin by minimizing fine lines and wrinkles, reducing acne and acne scarring and unwanted pigmentation such as sunspots and freckles, as well as treating sun damage or rough, scaly skin

A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes the dead, dull outer layers of skin cells to separate and eventually peel off. This stimulates your skin to bring healthy, new cells to the surface for an enhanced complexion

At Raleigh Skin Surgery center we offer the VI peel, a medium depth peel that stimulates collagen and increases cellular turnover to reveal smoother and more radiant skin. The VI peel is safe for all skin types and tones and has been recognized by consumer groups and industry leaders as the #1 peel! Additionally, VI peel has 5 custom blends targeted for each patient’s needs.

Acne

At The Med Spa at Vision Dermatology we offer a multitude of treatment options and combinations to address mild to cystic acne. While most clients may benefit from one of our advanced skin care topical product lines, we offer unique treatments such as blue light therapy and mild chemical peels.

Acne vulgaris is a common inflammatory skin condition characterized by the development of comedones, papules, and pustules. In serious cases, nodules and deep pustules as well as cysts may also develop. Acne vulgaris can lead to substantial social and psychological problems including reduced self-esteem, heightened anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. Traditional clinical treatments include antibiotics and isotretinoin (acutane), but these can be limited in their usefulness and acceptability. Furthermore, treatments are often difficult and inconvenient to use, time-consuming, and can be expensive, and, because post-treatment relapse is common; compliance may be poor.

Sebaceous glands and Cuticobacterium acnes bacteria are central to the development of acne. Successful treatment modalities typically must effectively decrease the quantity and output from sebaceous glands and eliminate the bacteria which culture within the oily sebum and ultimately form acne lesions.

At The Med Spa at Vision Dermatology we offer a multitude of treatment options and combinations to address mild to cystic acne. While most clients may benefit from one of our advanced skin care topical product lines, we offer unique treatments such as blue light therapy, which directly targets the layer of the skin that harbor acne-causing bacteria kill them. Mild chemical peels can be effective at decreasing sebum production and killing bacteria as well.

Many clients with moderate to severe acne can benefit from treatment with Lumecca Intense Pulsed Light(IPL). IPL is a gentle treatment that addresses both the p.acne bacteria, as well as the pigmentation and redness of acne prone skin. The ability of IPl to reduce pore size and cause some ablation and reduction in sebacsous glands provides added treatment benefit.

Microneedling with Radiofrequency (RF) has been proven to effectively treat active cystic acne and the scars which may result. By utilizing the most advanced microneedling with RF machine in the industry (the Morpheus8), studies have shown that RF reduces sebum production through the selective electrothermolytic destruction of sebaceous glands wherein the glands are subsequently replaced by fibrosis, leading to dermal contraction and result in skin tightening and pore size reduction. The high heat employed with RF energy further destroys the bacteria causing acne and thus the treatment provides comprehensive action.

Sun Damage - Age and Vascular Spots

Age spots are a result of the body producing excess melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives skin its color.

When the skin is exposed to sunlight, the body produces extra melanin to protect the skin from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. The more melanin produced, the darker the skin becomes. Age spots appear when excess melanin in the skin becomes clumped together.

Age spots can be addressed with topical products, red light therapy in combination with GlycoALA or Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL).

IPL systems work on the same principles as lasers in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells with color (chromophores) in the skin. The light energy is converted to heat energy, which causes damage to the specific target area.

IPL systems are different from lasers in that they deliver many wavelengths (or colors) in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. Most IPL systems use filters to refine the energy output for the treatment of certain areas. This enhances penetration without using excessive energy levels and enables the targeting of specific chromophores (the skin components that absorb light).

IPL therapy is considered a non-ablative resurfacing technique, which means that it targets the lower layers of skin (dermis) without affecting the top layers of skin (epidermis). The advantage of IPL therapy is its minimal downtime – a patient can often have the procedure done in their lunch break and return to work immediately afterwards.

At The Med Spa at Vision Dermatology we utilize Lumecca for IPL. Lumecca is a breakthrough intense pulsed light (IPL) that delivers up to 3X more energy to improve efficacy for both small red vascular and pigmented lesions. We possess two separate delivery devices with different wavelengths that address more skin tones.

Lumecca is one of the only IPL machines engineered to address Asian, latino and darker skin. Additionally, Lumecca is optimized to treat a variety of lesions with fewer sessions and it possesses a large sapphire at its tip which results in cooling of the treatment area and minimized discomfort.

Lumecca can reduce vascular lesions, including port wine stains, facial, truncal and leg telangiectasias, rosacea, erythema of rosacea, angiomas and spider angiomas, poikilodenna of Civatte, superficial leg veins and venous malformations.

Fat Reduction (Body Contouring)

Body contouring with the reduction of adipose tissue (or fat) can be accomplished using the latest technology available at The Med Spa at Vision Dermatology.

The Morpheus8 machine provides microneedling with Radiofrequency (RF).  It is the only full-body fractional aesthetic device for subdermal adipose remodeling.

Morpheus8 arises from two aesthetic techniques, surpassing them both. Its microneedles penetrate deeply, to the subdermal fat under the superficial skin layers. It directs electromagnetic energy to these regions, causing fat coagulation.

Morpheus8 produces a “shrink wrap” effect on the skin. More than just tightening, the treatments produce fat-reduction that can be observed virtually anywhere on the body.

Morpheus8Body became available in the US in 2021 and further increased the tools we can employ to treat adipose, laxity and cellulite.

The new Morpheus8Body allows for Radiofrequency Micro-needling at a depth of up to 7mm (twice what was previously possible) while providing the “blast option” to cycle quickly through multiple depths with varying levels of power.

The end result is that fat ablation is possible at the depth of the adipose tissue below the dermis but the ability to target and tighten the dermis at more superficial depths affords for tightening with the fat reduction.

In other words, the patient isn’t left wanting the fat to be put back in due to the crepe-ing and extreme laxity that can result with loss of fat.

Unlike Cool-sculpting which freezes cells to death and may have the rare paradoxical side effect of making your body think its freezing in the arctic and thus stimulates fat production, Morpheus Body destroys fat cells via radio frequency and heat by targeting sub-dermal layers of adipose and address laxity that can result with volume loss by targeting the more superficial dermal layers as well.

Skin Laxity

Skin Laxity or "Crepe-y" Skin

Skin laxity is an essential topic when it comes to treating the signs of aging. Skin laxity or the loss of skin elasticity can be tied to a huge number of aging symptoms. Wrinkles, deep lines, sagging skin and lost volume all have something to do with skin laxity. Fortunately, skin laxity can be treated.

Skin laxity occurs as a result of lost skin elasticity. Your skin’s elasticity enables it to bounce back from stretching, hold a taut form to your body and resist the effects of gravity. Skin laxity varies from individual to individual with some naturally possessing more elastic skin than others.

Healthy, youthful, and vibrant skin is something we’re each born with naturally, but as time passes, a variety of factors degrade the quality of the skin. In fact, the reticular dermis, the layer of the skin that contains the fibroblasts which make collagen and elastin, loses an average of 5% of its core every year of life after birth.

Additionally, lifestyle habits such as smoking, stress, and overexposure to the sun accelerate the breakdown of skin elasticity and can cause this critical layer to deplete even more rapidly. Collagen and elastin are the glue that that holds the epidermis (outer skin layer) to the underlying deeper layers of dermis, muscle and bone. When the glue becomes too thin, the epidermis essentially falls down. Wrinkles, folds, sagging and a general loss of tight skin are manifest as the deeper layers move while the epidermis no longer moves in sync.

With sun exposure, harmful UV rays penetrate the skin and trigger photo-aging. Numerous dermatological studies have shown that those who are prone to sun exposure will typically experience accelerated rates of photo-aging. If you are regularly exposed to the sun without adequate sun protection, the sun’s UV rays are chronically triggering the release of free radicals and oxidative molecules in your skin. These oxidative elements set in motion chemical reactions that weaken the molecular structure of skin cells. Some studies are indicating that as much as 50% of aging symptoms are caused by the sun!

The oxidative stress on your skin triggered by the sun breaks down your skin’s supportive structures and results in loss of skin elasticity. Moreover, oxidative stress breaks down your skin’s natural protective characteristics and ability to retain moisture.

Over time, skin laxity worsens and is linked to the appearance of bands of sagging skin, jowls on the face, depressions in the cheeks and many other symptoms of aging. Simply put, your skin is losing its ability to resist the force of gravity and retain shape along your natural features.

The Med Spa at Vision Dermatology provides many options for rebuilding and sustaining the reticular dermis and collagen and elastin. Carefully selected skin care products from ZO Skin Health and Environ have been tested in double-blinded placebo-controlled studies and demonstrate the ability to stimulates fibroblasts can serve as either a stand alone or adjunct tool.

Additionally Red Light Therapy specifically targets this key layer of the dermis and has been proven to promote its thickness and integrity. Topical treatments such as GlycoAla can dramatically enhance this modality.

Finally, The Med Spa at Vision Dermatology prides itself on possessing the most advanced and effective sources of Radiofrequency (RF) stimulation. Morpheus 8 is a new device from In Mode Aesthetics, the world’s leader in radiofrequency technology, that takes the improvement in skin quality from microneedling and adds the skin-tightening and fat contouring benefits of RF.

Morpheus is revolutionary because it treats deeper than most prior microneedling devices and it’s FDA approved as a Subdermal Adipose Remodeling Device or SARD. This means that Morpheus treats more than just the skin – by directing energy into the tissue below the skin, difficult to treat areas like fatty necks and jowls can be contoured non-surgically.

Alternatively, Forma is skin and tissue remodeling technology equipped with a subdermal heating applicator. Radiofrequency travels via electrodes to deliver a non-invasive and pain-free treatment, and its controls allow the device to reach optimal temperatures. Virtually all areas of the body can be treated including the face, neck, knees, hands, arms, buttocks, abdomen, breasts.

We believe no one is too young or too old to begin feeding their skin. We have carefully selected treatment modalities and skin care lines which best assist our clients in obtaining and maintaining healthy and youthful looking skin by targeting the key elements of the skin that universally degrade as an individual ages.
